Men’s weekend wrap
Posted on: 21 May
Just when it looked like 40pts would be a good score with the course and greens playing so well, there were some monster scores starting from last Friday. First up is the major news of the players who have won through to the finals of the Club matchplay Championships. In A grade the qualifying form held true and it is #1 qualifier Brendan James vs #2 qualifier Shayden Binder. In B Grade #1 Phil Crawford will play #4 Steve Winstanley. And in C grade it is #8 Paul Bish taking on #5 Lionel Dawkings. Good luck to all players in their finals.
On Friday the big scores were in C Grade with Matthew Chalder(19) taking first spot on a countback over Ray McClymont(24) after both had +8 in the par event. Big news for Warren Smith who holed out his tee shot on 12th for his first ever hole in one. The bonus for Warren is that on the previous Monday night the Mens Golf Committee had decided that every men’s comp hole in one would receive a trophy. If any of you do make a hole in one in the future, take a photo if you can and email it to firstname.lastname@example.org and it will be part of the trophy. If you don’t get a picture on the green, don’t worry, we will use a stock photo of the hole.
More big scores on Saturday with Simon Blake(10) feeling safe after 45pts, only to have Club Captain Dave Cornwall(9) follow him into the bar with the same score and a better countback! Simon did have a sensational front nine (his second nine) with 26pts. Dick Paull(32) our Club vice-Captain made it a good day for the Captains winning D grade with 39pts.
The weekend wrapped up with the biggest score of all when Tony Mcallister(28) finished the day with 47pts that included a wipe on the 12th. An amazing round!
This week the work is being done to upgrade the bunkering at the front of the 13th, it will add some new challenges and make the hole look a lot more interesting and attractive visually. More good work from Chris and the Greens staff.
