Lots of information in this, so please take the time to read the message in full.

We will start with the fantastic news that Shay Bennett has been selected to compete in a Junior Tournament in South Africa. This was with the assistance of the Nomads Golf Club in conjunction with Jack Newton Junior Golf. Everglades Country Club is sponsoring Shay to enable him to accept the invitation. This Wednesday 17 September, there will be a $20 ‘100 Club’ fundraiser to assist Shay with additional expenses and some spending money for his trip. Wednesday golfers, both morning and afternoon, please bring some extra cash on the day! Aidan Cuddington will be outside the Pro Shop to catch the morning golfers. Afternoon players, and any others wishing to be involved, please see Ian Cameron in the Clubhouse after 4:30pm. The winner will be drawn by Shay around 5:30pm

Golf Australia is changing to a new system for managing handicaps. The process that you see remains the same, with the change being in the software that they use. This is a major operation and means that for the period 29 September to 10 October no competition scores will be handicapped. It has no effect on our competitions, though we will take the opportunity to schedule some foursomes and ambrose events. Please understand that this is a National process, no Clubs will be handicapping scores during this period. For those who use the Golf Australia app, or the Golflink website, (to keep track of handicaps) you will need to re-register once the changover process is completed. Over the recent few weeks we have finalised a couple of major events. Congratulations to Mark Nomchong on his victory over Benny Gross in the final of the handicap matchplay. Also, congratulations to David Hajakian on winning the Medal of Medals for 24-5 with a score of 66 nett.

We have two major events coming up in October. On Sunday 12th it will be the 27 hole Mixed foursomes championships, with tee times will commencing from 8am. If you are looking for a partner, check with the Pro Shop to see if they have anyone wanting to play. On Saturday 19th it is the Men’s Foursome Championships. That is 27 holes for A & B grade and 18 holes for C Grade. It is a fully seeded event, so you will need to make your entry via the envelope booking system. Those envelopes will be out 27 Sep to 3 Oct. Your grade is the grade of the lowest handicapper in the pair, if the higher handicap is outside the grade, it will be lowered to the maximum for the grade you play in. (e.g. a pair with handicaps of 9 & 16, will play in A grade with handicaps of 9 & 12). Find a partner and get your entry in, it can be a fun day. There will be presentation ceremonies at the completion of each event.

Before moving on to course management matters, we advise that Dave Cornwall is taking a break from being Captain – with Stewart Wilson now in the role. So, if you see Dave, have something good to say to him, and save any questions or problems for another committee member.

Pace of play on Fridays has become a real problem. Players need to be aware that as part of a competition they have a responsibility to maintain their position in the field. That place is directly behind the group ahead of you. Failure to do so can lead to a range of penalties, some that may be applied on the day of play, some that may affect the timing of future bookings for those who consistently lose time. Click (Ready Golf) to see ‘Ready Golf’ recommendations, which will assist you to move more quickly around the course. If you have difficulty keeping up when teeing off early, then please consider moving your booking time to later in the day.

Finally, the Spring course renovations have been completed and the grass is growing again. Which means we need you to keep taking care of YOUR course. Please repair divots, fix pitch marks and rake bunkers. This also applies whenever you are making use of the practice area.
